ABOUT AEO

English Olympics is one of BNEC's most prestigious events. We started from Nationwide English Olympics, and have managed to develop our English Competition into an Asian-scaled competition, Asian English Olympics. Around 700 participants from 13 countries all around Asia had participated in 2018 Asian English Olympics, competed in eight fields of competitions such as, Debate, Speech, Storytelling, Newscasting, Spelling Bee, Scrabble, Short Story Writing, and Radio Drama. We also give meaningful experiences to be remembered, and broadening the networking of the participants across Asia.

The 2019 AEO will be held on February 11-16, 2019. There will also be the “Institutional Champion” title for participating institutions. Points of every delegates who win in each field of AEO will be accumulated, whichever institution gathered the most points will be crowned for the title.

HISTORY OF AEO

  • 2012

    Inspiring Asia

    AEO (Asian English Olympics) was first held in 2012 with the total of 425 participants coming from Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, and Indonesia. Six fields of competition were provided for participants to compete in, such as Debate, Scrabble, Speech, Storytelling, Newscasting, and Short Movie Making.

  • 2013

    Asia in Tune

    To spread the success of the 2012 AEO, we decided to continue our extraordinary journey in 2013. The 2013 AEO was held in February 2013 with the total of 530 participants coming from 4 countries in Asia. There were 6 fields of competition for participants to compete in, such as Debate, Scrabble, Speech, Storytelling, Newscasting, and Short Movie Making.

  • 2014

    Apex in Youth

    With the purpose of giving a platform for youth in Asia to improve their English skills, gain international experiences and networking, The 2014 Asian English Olympics (AEO) was held on February 18th-22nd, 2014. This event involved 650 national and international students of high schools and universities in Asia, competing in six fields of competition; Debate, Speech, Newscasting, Storytelling, Scrabble, and Short Movie Making, judged by the experts of each field from all over Asia.

  • 2015

    Tribe of Aces

    The 2015 AEO was back on the February 2015. This event was attended by 432 participants that came from 91 institutions across seven countries, which were: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Hongkong, Macau, Thailand and Vietnam.


    In the 2015 AEO, we tried to give a new atmosphere by adding 2 new fields of competition, namely Short Story Writing and Spelling Bee. There were 7 fields of competition in total, which were Debate, Newscasting, Speech, Storytelling, Scrabble, Short Story Writing and Spelling Bee.

  • 2016

    Radiate Your Light

    The 2016 AEO was successfully conducted on 16th – 20th of February, 2016 with 4 new countries joining the competition (Laos, South Korea, Bangladesh, and India). We involved 571 national and international students of high school and universities coming from 10 countries in Asia. There were 7 fields of competition available to be competed in, such as Debate, Newscasting, Scrabble, Short Story Writing, Speech, Spelling Bee, and Storytelling.

  • 2017

    Live Your Aspiration

    The 2017 AEO was successfully conducted on February 9-13, 2017. It is joined by 660 participants from 10 countries across Asia along with a newly established field, namely Radio Drama.

    Discover Your Extraordinary
